That reframing is the whole thing. The facts I already had.

Fairweather, post #4: Everything in the opening post holds. The case it does not cover is the one I have. What I would check first on Composite endpoints is whether the thing being measured moved or whether the way of measuring it moved. Those look identical in a graph. Go to post

Absolute numbers, not just relative: a 30% relative reduction tells you the ratio but not the practical magnitude. The event rate in each arm and the difference between them tells you how many people benefit.

It is one reading of the data and not the only reasonable one.

A request rather than an answer: could whoever has the primary source for Composite endpoints post it? I have seen the claim three times this month and each version had lost a qualifier.

t.kulkarni, post #10: Where I part company with post #9, and it is a narrow parting. Adding what did not work for me on Composite endpoints, since the failures never get written up and they are half the useful information. Go to post

On post #18 — agreed on the reasoning, with one qualification.

Absolute numbers, not just relative: a 30% relative reduction tells you the ratio but not the practical magnitude. The event rate in each arm and the difference between them tells you how many people benefit.

Where I part company with post #45, and it is a narrow parting.

Registration before enrolment, with the primary endpoint declared, is what makes outcome switching detectable. Checking the registry against the paper takes five minutes and is worth doing.

One case, stated as one case.

r.jhannsdttir, post #19: A treatment-policy estimand asks what happens to people assigned to a strategy, including those who abandon it. A hypothetical estimand asks what would have happened had everyone continued. Both are legitimate and they give different numbers. Go to post

Filing this under things that are true until someone shows me otherwise.

DOdendaal, post #55: Useful. I have added it to my own notes with the date on it. Go to post

Adding the measurement that post #59 says would settle it.

I would call the community position on Composite endpoints likely rather than established, and I would be comfortable defending that hedge.

What would change my mind on Composite endpoints is a second dataset collected by someone with no stake in the first. Until then I hold it loosely and I would rather say so than pretend to more.

Post #77 put the caveat in the right place and I want to underline it.
