Introducing myself: pharmacist, sceptic, reluctant participant — one year on

This is a generated summary. It shows the 9 most-liked posts from a topic of 108, in their original order, with the accepted answer included where one exists. It is a reading aid and it will miss nuance — the full topic is the record.

j.teixeira, post #3: Hello and welcome. One practical suggestion: watch two subcategories rather than the whole site. The firehose is real and it puts people off in the first fortnight. If that reads as pedantic, it is, and it has saved me twice. Go to post

Following up: if you introduce yourself and someone asks a follow-up question, you can reply here or in a direct message depending on what feels right.

l.cabrera, post #9: Glad to see another member from outside the usual regions. The access and regional categories are thin for anywhere that is not the UK, EU or North America, and a dated first-hand account is worth more than any summary. That holds under the stated conditions and I have stated them. Go to post

If you are arriving from somewhere louder, the pace here will feel slow. A topic can sit for two days and then get a reply that is worth the wait. That is the design working.

Introducing myself: analytical background, no clinical background, here mostly to read the sourcing and analytics categories. I will ask more than I answer for a while.

I keep a log of this specifically because memory is unreliable about it.

Welcome. The short version of the culture: be specific, date everything, and say when you are guessing. That is genuinely the whole of it.

l.diallo, post #29: If you are arriving from somewhere louder, the pace here will feel slow. A topic can sit for two days and then get a reply that is worth the wait. That is the design working. This is where my knowledge stops and I would rather mark the edge than blur it. Go to post
Staff post. Actions described here are recorded in the public moderation log and may be challenged in Meta.

Welcome from staff. Nothing is required of you here — no posting quota, no introduction, no declaration of background. The only thing we ask is that a claim about a supplier arrives with the evidence attached.

It is a small point and it changes the answer, which is an awkward combination.

j.mwangi, post #47: Following up: if you introduce yourself and someone asks a follow-up question, you can reply here or in a direct message depending on what feels right. That is my reading. Someone else read the same page differently and was reasonable. Go to post

Appreciated. The plain phrasing does more work here than a longer post would.

There is: the practice category, and the calculators, both written for exactly that. Nothing there assumes chemistry, and the maintained documents show their working so you can check them by hand.

New, no scientific background at all, and slightly intimidated by the first three topics I opened. Is there a sensible on-ramp for someone who is here for practical reasons rather than technical ones?

b.demir, post #24: Welcome. Nobody will mind you asking something basic. The people most likely to answer are the ones who remember not knowing it. I would want the raw data before agreeing with my own summary of it. Go to post

Nice to meet you. Say what you are interested in rather than what you do, if you would rather — plenty of people here are anonymous about their background and it costs them nothing.
