Reporting a good result: why nobody bothers and why they should — setting out what I have, and where I think it stops being reliable.

Reporting a good result: setting out the arithmetic in full, because I have had to do it twice and I would rather nobody else did.

Every step is shown. If the answer is wrong the error will be visible, which is the point of writing it out rather than posting the result.

The arithmetic in the opening post is right; the assumption feeding it is the part to check.

Selective submission and selective reporting are the two easiest ways for a result to be shaped, and blinding addresses the first while a commitment to post addresses the second.

Noting that I have skin in this question and have tried to discount for it.

Where I part company with the opening post, and it is a narrow parting.

Blind submission is worth the effort: have someone else relabel the sample so neither you nor the laboratory knows which supplier it came from until the result is back. Blind results change minds; self-selected results do not.
