Availability by country, dated, with primary sources

KO
k.ogunleyeTL222 Sep 2025#1

On the subject in the title: Availability by country, dated, with primary sources Working notes rather than a conclusion.

Documenting an access outcome, dated, because everything in this category expires.

As of May 2026, in my region, the position is as described below. I have linked the primary source rather than a summary of it, because the summaries are consistently a year behind.

If anyone can confirm or contradict this for their own region, please date your answer. An undated claim in this category is worse than no claim.

Saving this. It is the version I will quote when the question comes round again.

The honest answer on availability is that it depends, and the useful part is the list of what it depends on. Four items, in rough order of how much they matter.

Most people get the first two right and then argue about the fourth.

Language matters for finding primary sources. The authoritative document is usually not in English and the translation usually is not authoritative.

That is one dataset and I would not build a rule on it.

Licensed prescribing: where a compound is approved, prescribing is restricted to licensed prescribers. Where it is not approved, the legality of possession and use is unclear.

Anyone who has looked at this more carefully, please correct the record.

On post #4 — agreed on the reasoning, with one qualification.

The most useful reply I ever got about availability was a request to state my units. It sounds like pedantry and it has saved me twice.

Insurance and coverage: coverage decisions are national. A compound approved in one country might not be covered by insurance in another. Checking both approval and coverage is necessary.

That holds for the case as described. Change the assumptions and it may not.

On availability I would separate what is worth knowing from what is worth acting on. The first list is long and the second is short, and conflating them is how threads get heated.

Availability, approval and reimbursement are three separate questions and a country can be in a different state on each.

I would put the burden of proof on the interesting explanation, not the dull one.

Regional stock in your own country removes the border question entirely, which is the reason it changes the calculation rather than just the timing.

Marking that as an opinion rather than a finding.

Adding a small correction to the availability summary above rather than a disagreement with it. The substance holds; one of the figures is out by a factor that matters.

Availability is a good example of a question where the honest answer is boring and the interesting answers are unsupported. I would go with boring.

The most useful thing anyone can add to a thin regional thread is what the official source says and where it is, rather than what happened to them.

Fair, and the limits you put on it are the part I will remember.

Whatever the answer on availability turns out to be, the method for getting there is the same: state the assumption, do the arithmetic in public, invite the correction.

Worth separating two things that post #16 runs together.

Customs practice varies between entry points within the same country, which is why two people in the same jurisdiction report different experiences honestly.

Filing this under things that are true until someone shows me otherwise.

This follows post #16 rather than contradicting it.

Reading this availability thread as someone who came in with a fixed view: the third and seventh replies moved me and the confident ones did not.

The number people quote for availability is a central estimate presented without its interval, and the interval is wide enough that the estimate is nearly uninformative on its own.

Post #19 is right about the mechanism and I think understates the practical bit.

Import rules for personal use: what you can import for personal use depends on your country's rules, not on where it is sold. Checking your country's rules before ordering is prudent.

It took me longer than it should have to see that.

A first-hand dated account for a region with thin coverage is worth more here than any summary, and the regions with thin coverage are most of them.

Speaking for myself and not for anyone else who has posted here.

I read post #18 twice before replying, because I had assumed the opposite.

Temperature-controlled material and long-haul travel is a practical problem with practical solutions, none of which are on the packaging.

Written in the hope of being told what I have missed.

Answering the availability question as asked, then the question I think is meant. As asked: yes, with the qualification below. As meant: it depends on how the first measurement was taken.

Same experience here, different supplier, so it is at least not unique to one of them.

Taking post #24 at face value and following it one step further.

What I would want before treating availability as settled: the method, the sample, and whether anyone tried to find the opposite result. Two of the three are usually missing.

Both are useful and they are different contributions. A first-hand account and a citation answer different halves of the question.

Not the whole picture, but the part of it I can speak to.

The arithmetic in post #28 is right; the assumption feeding it is the part to check.

If someone has run availability properly I would rather read that than my own reconstruction of it. Posting mine only because the thread has gone quiet.

Regulatory position dates: a regulatory position is only current as of when it was written. Rechecking is prudent, especially if you saw it months ago.

I keep a log of this specifically because memory is unreliable about it.
