Irish differences from the UK position — what changed since

Irish differences from the UK position — what changed since — setting out what I have, and where I think it stops being reliable.

What changes if the standard account of Irish differences is wrong? I ask because I have been treating it as settled and I noticed this week that I could not say why.

Working through the consequences rather than the evidence, since others here are better placed on the evidence.

The most useful contribution is a link to the current official page with the date you accessed it. That survives; a paraphrase does not.

Clear enough that I do not think I have a follow-up, which is unusual.

Narrowing post #2, because the general version has more than one answer.

For anyone finding this later: the short answer on Irish differences is that it depends on one thing, and the rest of the thread is people identifying which thing.

Worth separating Irish differences as a question about the compound from Irish differences as a question about the documentation. They get answered by different people and only one of them is answerable here.

Compounding pharmacies: UK allows compounding under specific conditions when a licensed product is unavailable. That is not a front-line option but becomes relevant during shortages.

Happy to be the one who is wrong here if it settles the question.

Pharmacy practice varies between pharmacies and is not deducible from the regulatory position. Two people can honestly report opposite experiences.

The arithmetic in post #7 is right; the assumption feeding it is the part to check.

Anyone quoting an eligibility threshold should say which document it comes from. The thresholds have changed and the old ones are still circulating.

On post #7 — agreed on the reasoning, with one qualification.

Private prescribing arrangements differ in what they include, and the differences are more consequential than the headline price.

Not the whole picture, but the part of it I can speak to.

Picking up post #7: that is the part I would want checked first.

I would put moderate confidence on the mainstream reading of Irish differences and no more. That is not scepticism for its own sake; it is where the sourcing actually stops.

Adding the measurement that post #8 says would settle it.

My understanding of Irish differences is a few years old and may have been superseded. If it has been, I would genuinely like to know rather than keep repeating it.

Supply and shortage resilience: both UK and Ireland sourced primarily from European suppliers until recent disruptions. Domestic availability and pricing changed.

It is worth stating the boring hypothesis before the interesting one.

Adding what did not work for me on Irish differences, since the failures never get written up and they are half the useful information.
