Review: a draft on reconstitution arithmetic, with objections posts 121–130

This is a continuation of a long topic, addressed by post number rather than by page. Start at post 1.

Post #118 is right about the mechanism and I think understates the practical bit.

Small correction to my own earlier position on draft on reconstitution arithmetic. I had the units the wrong way round, which changes the conclusion by an order of magnitude and therefore changes it entirely.

Coming back to post #120, because the follow-up matters more than the original answer.

Nothing in a maintained document is medical advice and the review should confirm the page says so where it matters rather than only in a footer.

s.kravchenko, post #42: Ask what the page would look like if it were wrong. A document with no stated failure conditions is hard to review and harder to maintain. Go to post

Where the review finds the content is right but the framing overstates it, that is the most valuable catch available at this stage.

On reflection I would soften that slightly.

Quietly grateful for the plain phrasing. Not every thread gets that.

Post #122 answers the question as asked. The question underneath it is different.

Objections are genuinely wanted at this stage, because a bad promotion is much harder to undo than a bad reply.

A modest claim, modestly supported.

c.adebayo, post #28: The arithmetic in post #25 is right; the assumption feeding it is the part to check. Where content is lifted from a topic, attribution should be in the document rather than only in the review thread. Go to post

The four criteria are that the question recurs, that the content is correct and sourced or labelled as community practice, that somebody will be named as maintainer with a review date, and that no unresolved substantive objection stands.

If that reads as pedantic, it is, and it has saved me twice.

Reviewing your own nomination is fine and is not sufficient. Somebody else has to read it for the process to mean anything.

Post #125 and I disagree about the size of the effect, not about the direction.

For anyone finding this later: the short answer on draft on reconstitution arithmetic is that it depends on one thing, and the rest of the thread is people identifying which thing.

endpoint_line, post #43: Objections are genuinely wanted at this stage, because a bad promotion is much harder to undo than a bad reply. Speaking for myself and not for anyone else who has posted here. Go to post

What I would want before treating draft on reconstitution arithmetic as settled: the method, the sample, and whether anyone tried to find the opposite result. Two of the three are usually missing.
