On the subject in the title: A supplier who responds to a discrepancy with silence Working notes rather than a conclusion.

Two things I would like separated before anyone answers on supplier, because they get bundled and then argued about as one thing.

The first is descriptive: what has actually been observed, by whom, and how. The second is causal: why. I am asking about the first only.

An unexplained discrepancy that the supplier declined to address is a legitimate thing to record, stated as exactly that and nothing more.

That has held every time I have looked, which is not the same as always.

Documentation quality as a signal: a supplier that reports method identifiers, distinguishes specification from result, and states the counter-ion form is telling you something about systems behind the document. A certificate that is a number and a signature tells you less.
