Requesting a translation of an existing page

RA
r.aldana_pharmdTL4Pharmacist6 Mar 2025#1

Requesting a translation of an existing page — setting out what I have, and where I think it stops being reliable.

Requesting a translation keeps being re-asked here and I think that is because the answer is conditional and the conditions never travel with it.

Attempting to write the conditional version down properly. Corrections welcome and expected — I would like this to end up as a maintained page rather than a fifth thread.

Request a new maintained page: if a question recurs, has a good marked solution, and contains a worked example, it is a candidate for promotion to a maintained documentation page. Post your nomination in this subcategory with a link to the topic.

Flag a page that has drifted: if you notice a maintained page has information that is outdated (dates that have passed, regulatory changes, new evidence) post a flag so the maintainers see it.

The arithmetic in post #3 is right; the assumption feeding it is the part to check.

Requests for a page summarising a supplier are declined, because that is what the vendor documentation set is for and it has its own standards.

I had read the opposite somewhere and cannot now find where, which tells me something.

Suggesting content for a page: if you know a maintained page is missing something important, post a suggestion with specific content you think should be added.

That is one dataset and I would not build a rule on it.

Say what would make the page wrong. A page whose failure conditions are stated is much easier to review honestly.

The answer changed when I changed how I was measuring, which was informative.

Correction requests: if you spot an error in a maintained page, note it here with the specific correction. The maintainer will review and update if justified.

Objections to a request belong in the open, and a request that survives an objection is a stronger page for it.

This follows post #7 rather than contradicting it.

Existing replies can be lifted into a draft with attribution, and their authors are generally pleased rather than otherwise.

A single observation, in a thread that deserves better than single observations.

Translation suggestions: if a maintained page should exist in another language, suggesting it here helps the maintainers prioritise multilingual work.

Format suggestions: if you think a maintained page could be clearer in its presentation (different section structure, different examples, added graphics) suggest the change.

Where I would look next, rather than where I would stop.

Adding a data point of agreement rather than a data point.

Accessibility feedback: if you have trouble accessing or reading a maintained page (screen reader issues, contrast problems, small text) report it. Accessibility matters.

The step people skip is the one I have spelled out.

Scope creep: if you think a page is attempting too much and should be split into multiple pages, that is a reasonable suggestion.

The conclusion is tentative; the arithmetic underneath it is not.

Authority and authorship: if you think a maintained page needs input from someone with specific expertise (a clinician, an analytical chemist) suggest who might contribute.

I would rather say I do not know than round it up to an answer.

Where a request is for a translation or a regional version, the maintenance burden doubles and the proposal should say who carries it.

That is all I can say without guessing.

Everything in post #14 holds. The case it does not cover is the one I have.

Review cadence should be part of the proposal. A page about a fast-moving area needs a shorter cycle and somebody willing to honour it.

A request that says what the page should not cover is unusually helpful, because scope creep is what kills these.

The right answer here may simply be that it has not been measured.

Post #18 describes the usual case. This is about the unusual one.

Where an existing document nearly covers it, extending that one is usually better than starting a new one. Two overlapping pages drift apart.

I would put the burden of proof on the interesting explanation, not the dull one.

Marking my uncertainty on requesting a translation explicitly. I am confident about the direction, much less confident about the size, and not confident at all that it generalises past the case in the first post.
