Telehealth prescribing models in the US posts 91–103

This is a continuation of a long topic, addressed by post number rather than by page. Start at post 1.

Confirming post #90 from a second method, which matters more than confirming it from a second person.

Where a manufacturer runs a direct supply route, that is a commercial arrangement rather than a regulatory change, and it can end.

If anyone can point at the primary source I would be grateful.

Telehealth prescribing: widespread in the US and varying in quality. Models without a clinician reviewing measurements and history are not recommended by this community.

None of the above is medical advice and I am not qualified to give any.

That is a fair summary of where the discussion has got to.

n.duarte, post #83: Cross-border purchasing raises both a legal question and a practical one, and the legal one is yours to establish for your own jurisdiction. Go to post

Post #92 describes the usual case. This is about the unusual one.

Telehealth prescribing models would be much easier to settle if anyone reported the denominator. Almost nobody reports the denominator.

Post #94 is the version of this I will quote in future. One addition.

Telehealth prescribing models is worth one more sentence than it usually gets, and the sentence is the one about how the number was arrived at.

Where I part company with post #92, and it is a narrow parting.

Anyone reporting an outcome should give the stated reason rather than the verdict. The reason is the part somebody else can use.

The claim is narrower than it sounds, and deliberately so.

United States: FDA licenses compounds. Prescribing and pharmacy practice are state-regulated. Compounds are prescription-only. Coverage is decided by individual plans, not nationally.

s.chowdhury, post #76: A telehealth route and an in-person route can reach the same prescription through different criteria, and the criteria are what generalise. I have said this before in a thread nobody could find, so it is worth repeating. Go to post

An update on my earlier telehealth prescribing models post: the pattern held for another six weeks and then stopped, which I did not predict and cannot explain.

Small methodological point on telehealth prescribing models: repeating a measurement is cheap and resolves most of what is being argued about here at no cost to anyone.

I read post #96 twice before replying, because I had assumed the opposite.

Cost comparisons should state whether they include the device and the dispensing fee, because those differ between routes and between states.

I have written this out at length because the short version keeps being misread.

t.duarte, post #11: Adding a small correction to the telehealth prescribing models summary above rather than a disagreement with it. The substance holds; one of the figures is out by a factor that matters. Go to post

Post #100 is right about the mechanism and I think understates the practical bit.

Offering a way to settle telehealth prescribing models rather than another opinion about it. Two measurements, taken the same way, a fortnight apart. If the difference is within the noise, the question was not answerable at this precision.

e.okafor, post #34: Everything in post #30 holds. The case it does not cover is the one I have. Telehealth prescribing models was covered in the wiki last year and the page has a review date on it, which is a better starting point than my memory of a thread. Go to post

Following, with nothing to contribute beyond having asked the same thing elsewhere.

Pharmacy practice varies between pharmacies within the same city, so two honest accounts can be entirely different.

I am describing what is, rather than arguing for what should be.
