[2026 update] Antibiotics and a course of something with delayed emptying posts 91–98

Reading back through, this was answered upthread and I missed it. My fault.

What I want from this Antibiotics thread is the list of things that would need to be true for the claim to hold. If we can write that list, we can check it.

A pharmacist can answer most questions in this subcategory in a few minutes with access to a proper interaction database, and that access is the thing a forum does not have.

The thing about Antibiotics that took me longest to accept is that a plausible mechanism is not evidence of an effect. It is a reason to look, not a result.

I read post #92 twice before replying, because I had assumed the opposite.

Antibiotics: I have looked for the primary source twice and failed twice. Either it does not exist or it is somewhere I do not know to look, and I would like to know which.

Post #95 answers the question as asked. The question underneath it is different.

Where a published interaction study exists it usually reports an area-under-curve ratio, and that number is far more informative than a yes-or-no answer.

I have deliberately not rounded that, because the rounding is where the argument starts.

Delayed gastric emptying is the mechanism behind most of the plausible interactions in this class: anything whose absorption depends on how quickly the stomach empties can behave differently.

I would treat the number as indicative rather than as a measurement.

Anticoagulant questions come up regularly and are the clearest case for professional advice rather than discussion, because the consequence of being wrong is not gradual.

I have separated what I observed from what I concluded, which does not always happen.
