When a red flag was a misunderstanding, and the retraction I have a specific reason for asking rather than idle curiosity, and the context is below.
Red flag — I have the observation and I do not trust my interpretation of it, so I am posting the observation and holding the interpretation back.
Numbers, method and the conditions under which they were collected are below. Interpret them however they warrant.
Taking the opening post at face value and following it one step further.
Inability to trace lots: if you ask "where was this synthesised, by whom, under what conditions" and cannot get a clear answer, that is a red flag. Traceability is not glamorous but it is foundational.
That has held every time I have looked, which is not the same as always.
The strongest single signal available cheaply is what happens when you ask a technical question. A quantitative answer inside a working day is difficult to fake at scale.
The opening post put the caveat in the right place and I want to underline it.
A note on scope: what I am saying about red flag applies to the case in the first post and I would not extend it further without checking.

Prices well below the rest of the market are a fact rather than a finding. They are worth noting and they do not establish anything on their own.
I disagree with the framing of red flag above, and I think it is a substantive disagreement rather than a terminological one. Setting out why, so it can be checked.
The reasoning depends on an assumption that is doing a lot of work and is never stated. If the assumption holds, the conclusion follows. I do not think it holds generally.
