Here for the analytics and not much else — one year on

On the subject in the title: Here for the analytics and not much else — one year on Working notes rather than a conclusion.

First post, and a question about how to read the place rather than a technical one.

I have worked through the how-to-ask page and the guidelines. What I have not worked out is the difference in practice between a topic, a maintained document and a marked solution, and when to look at which.

No rush on this. I would rather understand the shape of it before I add anything.

Hello and welcome. One practical suggestion: watch two subcategories rather than the whole site. The firehose is real and it puts people off in the first fortnight.

On balance I think that is right, and I would not bet much on it.

Reading rather than contributing, but this is the most useful thread I have found on it.

Welcome. The short version of the culture: be specific, date everything, and say when you are guessing. That is genuinely the whole of it.

One of those cases where knowing the mechanism does not help the decision.

Privacy: share only what you are comfortable making permanent and public. An introduction is archived and searchable; do not include information you will later regret posting.

Following up: if you introduce yourself and someone asks a follow-up question, you can reply here or in a direct message depending on what feels right.

The literature is thinner on this than the confidence in the thread implies.

No judgment: people come to this community from all backgrounds and with all motivations. Introductions are for getting to know each other, not for evaluation.

Clinician voices are genuinely welcome and are asked to be explicit about the line. Several members here say plainly in every post that they are describing general information and not advising anybody, and nobody finds that tedious.

Welcome. If you have an analytical background you will find the analytics subcategories the easiest place to be useful quickly — the recurring gap here is people who can read a chromatogram, not people who can read a trial.

Same experience here, different supplier, so it is at least not unique to one of them.

Moved from Off topic by KLindqvist. Category placement is not obvious from outside and getting it wrong is expected. This topic will get better answers here. The move is recorded in the public log citing R7.
