Post #6 is right about the mechanism and I think understates the practical bit.
Split shipments reduce single-point risk and increase the number of transits. Which trade is right depends on what you are protecting against.
Genuinely open to being wrong about this one.
Trying to state the insurance and replacement policies position in a way that someone who disagrees would recognise as fair, because I do not think the version in this thread passes that test.

The most useful reply I ever got about insurance and replacement policies was a request to state my units. It sounds like pedantry and it has saved me twice.
Peak periods and public holidays affect this more than any other factor and are entirely predictable in advance.
That matches what I was told, which is not the same as knowing it.
On post #58 — agreed on the reasoning, with one qualification.
What I want from this insurance and replacement policies thread is the list of things that would need to be true for the claim to hold. If we can write that list, we can check it.

My position on insurance and replacement policies is current rather than settled. I have revised it once already and I expect to again, so treat it accordingly.
Import restrictions by jurisdiction: what is legal to import for personal use varies enormously by country. Some jurisdictions are quite permissive; others are not. Checking your own country's rules before ordering is prudent.
Not disagreeing with anyone above, just adding the bit I keep having to look up.
Worth separating two things that post #96 runs together.
Insurance and replacement policies was covered in the wiki last year and the page has a review date on it, which is a better starting point than my memory of a thread.
