Fraud and scams: if a supplier demands payment upfront with no recourse if delivery fails, you are taking a risk. Reputation and history of other buyers matter.

Posting this under the heading it deserves: Payment method and the leverage it gives you, ranked Everything below is what sits behind that.

A payments question, with the mechanics separated from the money.

What I would like to understand is what each payment route actually leaves you holding afterwards: what is recorded, who holds the record, and what can be produced later if a consignment has to be discussed. That is a different question from which route is cheapest.

I have listed what I keep at the moment below. I would like to know what is missing from it rather than whether it is enough.

Checked the payment method claim against the primary source this morning. It survives, with a narrower scope than the version quoted here. Posting the narrower scope.

Counterpoint on payment method, offered without confidence: the same observation is consistent with a much duller explanation, and nobody has ruled the dull one out.

The site does not carry prices, payment details or transaction routes, and questions asking for them will be answered with that rather than with a link.

I would treat the number as indicative rather than as a measurement.

No payment facilitation: this site does not handle payments and does not connect buyers and sellers for the purpose of payment. We discuss logistics and documentation of the process but not the commerce itself.

That is where I would start, not where I would stop.

Summarising the payment method thread so far, since it is long and the answer is buried: the first reply has the method, the fourth has the correction to it, and the rest is people agreeing at length.

Helpful, and easy to find again, which is half of what a good reply is.

I would call the community position on payment method likely rather than established, and I would be comfortable defending that hedge.

Payment mechanics: most suppliers accept bank transfer, crypto, and some accept credit cards. Each has different risk and different fees. Understand before you commit to a payment method.

A weak preference rather than a position.

I had written a reply contradicting post #9 and deleted it. Here is what survived.

Escrow services: some third-party services hold payment until the buyer confirms receipt. They add cost but reduce risk if the supplier is unknown.

The reasoning is more useful than the number, which is why I have shown it.

Confirming post #9 from a second method, which matters more than confirming it from a second person.

Currency conversion: payment in your local currency often involves a conversion fee. Paying in the supplier's native currency sometimes saves money, sometimes costs more. Compare before committing.

That is what the documentation says. What happens in practice is usually close.

Payment method has been discussed here with more heat than it deserves, mostly because two definitions have been in play the whole time.

Refund policy before ordering: ask what the policy is if you receive damaged material or if the order is incorrect. Get it in writing or screenshot it.

I would put the burden of proof on the interesting explanation, not the dull one.

Where I part company with post #13, and it is a narrow parting.

Whatever method is used, the record of what was ordered and what was quoted is the thing that matters afterwards. Screenshots of a cart are not a record.

Adding a null result on payment method. I looked, carefully, and found nothing, and null results deserve posting precisely because they never are.

Adding the measurement that post #17 says would settle it.

Where a supplier issues a quote with an expiry, honouring it after the expiry is a courtesy rather than an entitlement, and several here have found it granted.

That is the honest state of it as of this week.

Payment method sits at the boundary between what this community can usefully discuss and what it cannot, and I think it falls on the discussable side, narrowly.

Bank transfer and finality: once a bank transfer is sent, it is final. The money is gone. There is no recourse with the bank if the supplier disappears. That is why supplier reputation matters if using transfers.

The answer changed when I changed how I was measuring, which was informative.

Marking my uncertainty on payment method explicitly. I am confident about the direction, much less confident about the size, and not confident at all that it generalises past the case in the first post.

Picking up post #22: that is the part I would want checked first.

Recording the time from payment to dispatch is worth doing, because it is the part of the process most within the supplier's control.

On post #20 — agreed on the reasoning, with one qualification.

A methods point on payment method rather than a substantive one: if the comparison is not like for like, the difference you are measuring is the difference in method.

Reading back through the payment method threads from last year, the same three questions come up every time and only one of them has ever been answered properly. That seems like a documentation gap rather than a knowledge gap.

Chargeback reality: if you pay by credit card and the supplier does not deliver, you can attempt a chargeback. Suppliers know this and many require non-chargeable payment (transfer, crypto) as protection against it.

I read post #29 twice before replying, because I had assumed the opposite.

Cryptocurrency for payment: offers less fraud protection than credit cards and is final like bank transfer. Advantage: no geographic restrictions and no intermediary can reverse it. Disadvantage: if you send to a wrong address, it is lost.

I checked the source rather than the summary, and they differ.
