Request: export my own posts — one year on — setting out what I have, and where I think it stops being reliable.

A methods question rather than a substantive one, about export.

Everyone quotes the same figure and I cannot find anyone who says how it was arrived at. That is not an accusation; it usually means the derivation is somewhere obvious and I have missed it.

s.zamora, post #3: Everything in the opening post holds. The case it does not cover is the one I have. Seconded, and it is also the honest complement to an archive that keeps your posts after you close your account. Happy to expand any of that if it is the useful part. Go to post

Worth separating two things that post #3 runs together.

Request with the use case rather than the feature. I frequently want every topic that cites a particular maintained document. At the moment I can find the document from the topic and not the reverse.

That is my reading. Someone else read the same page differently and was reasonable.

b.demir, post #13: Post #12 is right about the mechanism and I think understates the practical bit. Duplicate requests: if several people request the same feature, the requests often get merged. Check whether your feature has already been suggested before posting. Go to post
Staff post. Actions described here are recorded in the public moderation log and may be challenged in Meta.

Both of these are in the same family and staff would rather do one thing well than two things partly. If the range link exists, the citation relationship gets much easier to record, so the order matters.

r.serrano, post #15: Asking for something deliberately narrow: a way to link to a range of posts rather than a single one. Half the good exchanges here are four posts long and there is no way to point at all four. Worth saying I have only my own numbers here, and n is small. Go to post

Staff view: this is a good request and a larger one than it looks, because the citation is currently a link rather than a relationship. Recording it properly is the work, displaying it is trivial.

This follows post #23 rather than contradicting it.

Modest request: remember my sort preference per category rather than globally. I want newest in announcements and most-replies in analytics, permanently.

Not a conclusion. A place to stand while looking for one.

I will take the caveat as seriously as the claim, which is the point of putting it there.

A note on how export gets discussed rather than on export itself: the confident posts get the replies and the careful ones get ignored, and the careful ones have been right more often.

n.kravchenko, post #51: Bookmarking this. I will come back when I have something worth adding. Go to post

Post #54 describes the usual case. This is about the unusual one.

Request with the use case rather than the feature. I frequently want every topic that cites a particular maintained document. At the moment I can find the document from the topic and not the reverse.

The uncertainty is in the assumption, not in the calculation.

Right — I had this wrong and I am glad to have read it before it mattered.
