Signs of dehydration worth acting on — setting out what I have, and where I think it stops being reliable.

Signs of dehydration worth acting, from the point of view of someone who has read the documentation and is still stuck.

Saying which parts I have understood so that nobody wastes time re-explaining them, and where exactly the understanding stops.

On signs of dehydration worth acting, the part that usually goes wrong is that the question is asked as though it has one answer. It has a range, and the width of the range is the interesting bit.

If you can post the two or three numbers you are working from, several people here will check the arithmetic rather than argue about the conclusion.

Signs of dehydration after repeated vomiting are the most common serious secondary problem described here and are also the most preventable.

One more caveat and then I will stop qualifying: the sample selected itself.

I will take the caveat as seriously as the claim, which is the point of putting it there.

A note on scope: what I am saying about signs of dehydration worth acting applies to the case in the first post and I would not extend it further without checking.

Post #3 and I disagree about the size of the effect, not about the direction.

Reporting here and reporting to a national scheme are not alternatives. The second is what feeds safety surveillance.

Written in the hope of being told what I have missed.

Taking post #7 at face value and following it one step further.

The published trial rates come from supervised populations on defined schedules and are not comparable to rates derived from who chooses to post.

Adding a null result on signs of dehydration worth acting. I looked, carefully, and found nothing, and null results deserve posting precisely because they never are.

Post #7 is right about the mechanism and I think understates the practical bit.

Acute kidney injury: rare but reported. Symptoms (decreased urine output, creatinine elevation) warrant urgent evaluation. Severe dehydration during weight loss is a risk factor.

Not the whole picture, but the part of it I can speak to.

What would change my mind on signs of dehydration worth acting is a second dataset collected by someone with no stake in the first. Until then I hold it loosely and I would rather say so than pretend to more.

The useful distinction on signs of dehydration worth acting is between what was measured and what was inferred from it. Both end up in the same sentence and only one of them has error bars.

The most useful contribution to this subcategory is a completed account: what happened, what was done, and what the outcome was.

The rule of thumb is fine; the edge cases are where it earns its keep.

Post #10 describes the usual case. This is about the unusual one.

I changed my mind about signs of dehydration worth acting after someone here asked me for the source and I could not produce one. That is worth saying out loud because it is the ordinary way it happens.

Post #12 is the version of this I will quote in future. One addition.

Source for the signs of dehydration worth acting figure, since it was asked for. It is in the discussion rather than the abstract, which is why the version circulating is stronger than the paper is.

Reading the surrounding paragraph is worth the two minutes. The authors are more careful than their summarisers.

Medullary thyroid carcinoma is the reason these compounds are contraindicated in people with personal or family history of MTC or multiple endocrine neoplasia type 2. Rodent toxicology showed a signal; human evidence of causation is absent but caution is appropriate.

Severe gastrointestinal events: persistent vomiting, abdominal pain out of proportion, or signs of bowel obstruction warrant urgent evaluation. Mild nausea and constipation are ordinary; severe versions are not.

I have deliberately not rounded that, because the rounding is where the argument starts.

A request rather than an answer: could whoever has the primary source for signs of dehydration worth acting post it? I have seen the claim three times this month and each version had lost a qualifier.

Where the signs of dehydration worth acting reasoning breaks down for me is the step from the group result to the individual case. That step is almost never argued for.

Coming back to post #18, because the follow-up matters more than the original answer.

Nothing here is medical advice, and in this subcategory the phrase is doing more work than in any other on the site.

Where I part company with post #19, and it is a narrow parting.

Attribution is genuinely hard for a single case and the reporting schemes are designed to work with that. You are not expected to prove causation to file.

I have no financial interest in anything named in this thread and I want to say so before I comment on signs of dehydration worth acting, because it is the sort of subject where it matters.

Two people in this thread mean different things by signs of dehydration worth acting and are disagreeing about the definition while believing they are disagreeing about the facts. Worth pausing to define it.

Marking my uncertainty on signs of dehydration worth acting explicitly. I am confident about the direction, much less confident about the size, and not confident at all that it generalises past the case in the first post.

Summarising the signs of dehydration worth acting thread so far, since it is long and the answer is buried: the first reply has the method, the fourth has the correction to it, and the rest is people agreeing at length.
