Post #57 put the caveat in the right place and I want to underline it.

Where the timeline discussion usually stalls is that nobody wants to say "I do not know" and everyone is willing to say "it varies". Those are the same sentence with different clothes on.

Reporting a real defect: on a long topic the jump-to-post link scrolls to the right post but the highlight does not fire on the first load. Second load is fine. Reproducible on my end, twice.

Worth reading the earlier posts in this thread before acting on mine.

Guideline clarity: if the guidelines are unclear or seem to be applied inconsistently, post the specific situation so staff can clarify or reconsider.

That is one dataset and I would not build a rule on it.

Post #61 and I disagree about the size of the effect, not about the direction.

Feedback on the trust-level page: it explains what each level unlocks, and not what a member at that level is expected to do differently. The second is what people actually want to know. Written from notes rather than memory, which is why the numbers are specific. Go to post

Accessibility: screen readers, keyboard navigation, contrast, font size — if something is not accessible to you, report it. Accessibility matters.

Reframing timeline slightly, because I think the disagreement is about the question rather than the answer. If the question is "does it happen", yes. If it is "how often", nobody here knows.

Worth separating two things that post #70 runs together.

Source for the timeline figure, since it was asked for. It is in the discussion rather than the abstract, which is why the version circulating is stronger than the paper is.

Reading the surrounding paragraph is worth the two minutes. The authors are more careful than their summarisers.

Staff rationale: Hidden by community flags. The claim about a named supplier was not accompanied by a batch, a date, a method or a document, which R6 requires.

Post #72 answers the question as asked. The question underneath it is different.

The useful distinction on timeline is between what was measured and what was inferred from it. Both end up in the same sentence and only one of them has error bars.

The corresponding entry is in the public moderation log. Hidden posts are never deleted.

Picking up post #72: that is the part I would want checked first.

Performance: if pages are slow to load, timeouts occur, or the site is unresponsive, that is worth reporting with details (when, which pages, how slow).

What would change my mind on timeline is a second dataset collected by someone with no stake in the first. Until then I hold it loosely and I would rather say so than pretend to more.

Two claims get bundled together under timeline and they need separating. The descriptive one — this is what was observed — is usually well supported. The causal one — this is why — usually is not.

Almost every disagreement in threads like this one dissolves once you say which of the two you are making.

I read post #79 twice before replying, because I had assumed the opposite.

The confident answers on timeline and the well-sourced answers are not the same answers, which is the most useful thing I have learned reading this category.

Adding the boring version of timeline, because the interesting version keeps getting posted and the boring one is usually right.

Check the ordinary explanations, in order, and stop when one of them accounts for what you are seeing. Most of the time the second one does.
