[2026 update] Availability by country, dated, with primary sources

MI
m.ibarraTL210 Dec 2025#1

On the subject in the title: Availability by country, dated, with primary sources Working notes rather than a conclusion.

Documenting an access outcome, dated, because everything in this category expires.

As of March 2026, in my region, the position is as described below. I have linked the primary source rather than a summary of it, because the summaries are consistently a year behind.

If anyone can confirm or contradict this for their own region, please date your answer. An undated claim in this category is worse than no claim.

The opening post describes the usual case. This is about the unusual one.

Import rules for personal use: what you can import for personal use depends on your country's rules, not on where it is sold. Checking your country's rules before ordering is prudent.

This is the sort of thing that ought to be settled and apparently is not.

Summarising the Availability thread so far, since it is long and the answer is buried: the first reply has the method, the fourth has the correction to it, and the rest is people agreeing at length.

What I can speak to on Availability is narrow, so I will keep it narrow rather than generalising from it. Beyond that boundary I do not know.

Customs practice varies between entry points within the same country, which is why two people in the same jurisdiction report different experiences honestly.

Adding a reference point for Availability. Mine is a single case, collected without controls, and I am posting the method alongside it so it can be discounted appropriately.

Post #6 is the version of this I will quote in future. One addition.

Both are useful and they are different contributions. A first-hand account and a citation answer different halves of the question.

I would hold that lightly until someone with a larger sample weighs in.

Availability is a question about a distribution, not about a value, and treating it as a value is what produces the confident wrong answers.

This follows post #6 rather than contradicting it.

Reporting rather than recommending, on Availability. What happened is above. Whether it should have is a different question and not one I am qualified to answer.

Nothing to add, except that this is the answer I would give if asked.

Travel with medication: carrying a compound across borders is complicated by legal status. Documenting that it is prescribed and carrying proof reduces (but does not eliminate) risk.

This follows post #11 rather than contradicting it.

The version of Availability that I was taught turned out to be a teaching simplification. Useful, and not true in the way I had assumed it was.

Coming back to post #11, because the follow-up matters more than the original answer.

A first-hand dated account for a region with thin coverage is worth more here than any summary, and the regions with thin coverage are most of them.

The answer changed when I changed how I was measuring, which was informative.

Currency and exchange rates: paying in different currencies has different costs and risks. Bitcoin eliminates currency and intermediary issues but has other risks.

The mechanism is plausible, which is not the same as established.

On post #11 — agreed on the reasoning, with one qualification.

Reading this Availability thread as someone who came in with a fixed view: the third and seventh replies moved me and the confident ones did not.

Picking up post #15: that is the part I would want checked first.

Language matters for finding primary sources. The authoritative document is usually not in English and the translation usually is not authoritative.

That is one dataset and I would not build a rule on it.

Where a compound is approved under a different trade name in another market, searching the local name finds documents the English name does not.

I would be glad to be shown a cleaner way of putting this.

Post #15 describes the usual case. This is about the unusual one.

Regional stock in your own country removes the border question entirely, which is the reason it changes the calculation rather than just the timing.

I would put the burden of proof on the interesting explanation, not the dull one.

Insurance and coverage: coverage decisions are national. A compound approved in one country might not be covered by insurance in another. Checking both approval and coverage is necessary.

A single observation, in a thread that deserves better than single observations.

Regional practice around what a pharmacy will and will not do varies enormously and is not deducible from the regulatory position.

The short answer was in the first line; everything after is the working.

On Availability: the maintained page in the documentation commons covers the general case with citations and a review date, which is more reliable than any reply here including this one.

Post #20 is the version of this I will quote in future. One addition.

Availability, approval and reimbursement are three separate questions and a country can be in a different state on each.

Where I part company with post #22, and it is a narrow parting.

The question underneath Availability is usually "how would I tell?" rather than "what is true?", and that one has a method attached to it.

Write down what you would expect to see under each hypothesis before you collect anything. If they predict the same observation, collecting it will not help.

The confident version of this sentence would be wrong, so here is the hedged one.

Answering the Availability question as asked, then the question I think is meant. As asked: yes, with the qualification below. As meant: it depends on how the first measurement was taken.

I had written a reply contradicting post #26 and deleted it. Here is what survived.

Nobody has said the unglamorous part of Availability yet, so: most of the variation is explained by things that are boring to write about and easy to check.

No notes. Posting so the count is not one.
