Solved by a.finnegan_rd in post #8
Prescription status is harmonised at the level of the authorisation and the practical route to a prescription is not.

EU-wide position versus national implementation Writing it up because I had to work it out twice and would rather nobody else did.

Eu-wide position versus national implementation: what I expected, what I found, and the gap between them.

I am posting the gap rather than a theory about it. My theories about gaps like this one have not held up well.

I will take the caveat as seriously as the claim, which is the point of putting it there.

Everything in the opening post holds. The case it does not cover is the one I have.

Where the eu-wide position versus national implementation reasoning breaks down for me is the step from the group result to the individual case. That step is almost never argued for.

Narrowing the opening post, because the general version has more than one answer.

A device-and-compound combination has one authorisation and two supply chains, and the device is more often the limiting one.

Where a national body publishes clinical guidance, that document determines the practical answer more than the authorisation does.

It reads as pedantry until the day it does not.

An update on my earlier eu-wide position versus national implementation post: the pattern held for another six weeks and then stopped, which I did not predict and cannot explain.

Answering the question post #5 raises rather than the one it answers.

What I would tell a new member reading about eu-wide position versus national implementation for the first time: the confident posts are not the reliable ones, and the reliable ones are longer.

Worth separating two things that post #5 runs together.

Eu-wide position versus national implementation is worth one more sentence than it usually gets, and the sentence is the one about how the number was arrived at.

An honest declaration on eu-wide position versus national implementation: I have a prior here and it is strong enough that you should weight what I say downward. Stating it rather than hiding it.

Regional stock held inside the union removes a customs question entirely for intra-union movement, which is a practical difference rather than a legal opinion.

Summarising the eu-wide position versus national implementation thread so far, since it is long and the answer is buried: the first reply has the method, the fourth has the correction to it, and the rest is people agreeing at length.

Post #10 is the version of this I will quote in future. One addition.

Anyone quoting an eligibility threshold should cite the national document, because thresholds differ between states and have changed within them.

The part I am sure of is shorter than the part I have written.

Date every claim. Positions in this subcategory have moved repeatedly and the archive keeps posts permanently.

This is the version I would want a new member to read first.

The failure mode on eu-wide position versus national implementation is boring rather than dramatic. It is almost always the step everyone assumes was done correctly because it is too simple to get wrong.

Building on post #15 rather than restating it.

Eu-wide position versus national implementation is a question about a distribution, not about a value, and treating it as a value is what produces the confident wrong answers.

Post #16 put the caveat in the right place and I want to underline it.

The public assessment report published at authorisation is one of the best free technical documents available on any of these compounds and it is rarely cited here.

I am aware this is the third time this month I have made this point.

Everything in post #16 holds. The case it does not cover is the one I have.

The honest answer on eu-wide position versus national implementation is that it depends, and the useful part is the list of what it depends on. Four items, in rough order of how much they matter.

Most people get the first two right and then argue about the fourth.

Practical note on eu-wide position versus national implementation: write down what you expect before you look. The number of times I have found what I went looking for is higher than chance would allow.

The useful distinction on eu-wide position versus national implementation is between what was measured and what was inferred from it. Both end up in the same sentence and only one of them has error bars.

EMA is the regulator with national implementation. Licensed incretin analogues are prescription-only across the EU, with some variation in specific approvals by member state.

Reading it again, the caveat matters more than the finding.

Worth separating two things that post #25 runs together.

The centralised authorisation covers the union and national access decisions do not. That distinction accounts for most of the apparent contradictions in this subcategory.

Correcting a stale claim here is more valuable than adding a new one, because the stale claims are what people find first.
