Nothing here is medical advice, and this subcategory exists to help people ask better questions rather than to answer them.

Posting it because the silence on this was starting to look like agreement.

n.chowdhury, post #9: A question phrased as "what would you want to see before considering X" is answerable and is not a request for X. That is a description of practice, not a recommendation of it. Go to post

This is the sort of exchange that makes the archive worth searching.

Bringing a record of symptoms with dates and severities makes an assessment materially easier and is the single most useful preparation.

That has been true for the cases I have seen and I have not seen many.

Post #49 and I disagree about the size of the effect, not about the direction.

Bringing a record of symptoms with dates and severities makes an assessment materially easier and is the single most useful preparation.

Asking what would change the plan is more productive than asking whether the plan is right. It gets you the decision criteria rather than a verdict.

A question phrased as "what would you want to see before considering X" is answerable and is not a request for X.

The rule of thumb is fine; the edge cases are where it earns its keep.

Noted, and I have changed what I was going to do on the strength of it.

Questions about dose: asking "how will we determine whether this dose is working for me" gets at the monitoring plan. Asking "can we start lower" or "can we escalate slower" opens that conversation.
