On the subject in the title: Travel coolers and how long they really hold Working notes rather than a conclusion.

A narrow question about travel coolers, deliberately narrow, because the broad version has been asked here four times and produced four long threads and no answer.

One question, stated units, stated method, and what I have already ruled out.

Travel coolers has been discussed here with more heat than it deserves, mostly because two definitions have been in play the whole time.

ka.haddad, post #13: I had written a reply contradicting post #11 and deleted it. Here is what survived. Recording arrival condition on ordinary deliveries is what makes the record useful. A file containing only the bad arrivals cannot tell you how often they happen. Go to post

Do not judge cold-chain performance from a single delivery in either direction. It is a distribution and one sample from it is one sample.

I would put a moderate confidence on that and no more.

Where I part company with post #40, and it is a narrow parting.

Where I have landed on travel coolers, having got it wrong once in public: the direction is clear, the magnitude is not, and anyone quoting a precise magnitude has borrowed it from somewhere that did not measure it.

The most useful reply I ever got about travel coolers was a request to state my units. It sounds like pedantry and it has saved me twice.

il.dumitru, post #17: Coming back to post #15, because the follow-up matters more than the original answer. A cold pack still solid on day seven is a genuinely good sign about the packing and says nothing about days two through six. The disagreement above is smaller than it looks once the terms are fixed. Go to post

I would keep travel coolers and the decision it usually gets used for separate in this thread. They are related and they are not the same question, and merging them is why the last one went badly.

Having read the whole travel coolers thread before replying: the question in the first post has not actually been answered yet, and three of us have answered a nearby one instead.

I have three months of notes on travel coolers and the honest summary is that the trend is real and the week-to-week numbers are noise. I nearly drew the opposite conclusion from the first fortnight.

Clear enough that I do not think I have a follow-up, which is unusual.
