Shipping container and cold packs: reputable suppliers use insulated containers with cold packs designed to arrive cool. Checking on arrival that cold packs are still cold is a sign the chain was maintained.
Same conclusion as the reply above, reached differently, which is mildly reassuring.
I would keep travel coolers and the decision it usually gets used for separate in this thread. They are related and they are not the same question, and merging them is why the last one went badly.
Travel coolers looks different depending on whether you are reading the primary literature or the summaries of it, and the difference is not in our favour.
Insulation performance depends on the mass of the coolant more than on the thickness of the box. A large pack in a modest box outperforms a small pack in a good one.
Customs holds are the most common cause of an unexpectedly long transit, and they are also the segment nobody has visibility of. Tracking gaps are usually that rather than a lost parcel.
Distinguishing three things in the travel coolers discussion that keep getting used interchangeably: the observation, the proposed mechanism, and the recommendation that gets attached to both.
The strongest argument against my own position on travel coolers, stated as well as I can state it, since nobody else has yet.
Everything in post #69 holds. The case it does not cover is the one I have.
Summer routes and winter routes are genuinely different problems, and a supplier that changes its packing between them is doing something rather than nothing.
For what it is worth, the same held on the two occasions I checked.

Something worth flagging about travel coolers: the strongest-sounding claims in this thread are the ones with no source attached, which is the usual pattern and not a coincidence.
Second-hand on travel coolers, so weight it accordingly — someone whose method I trust told me this and I have not verified it myself.

I have three months of notes on travel coolers and the honest summary is that the trend is real and the week-to-week numbers are noise. I nearly drew the opposite conclusion from the first fortnight.
The reason travel coolers is hard to answer is that the obvious measurement and the relevant quantity are not the same thing, and substituting one for the other is silent.
Travel coolers: I would want to see the raw numbers rather than the summary before agreeing. Summaries lose exactly the information that would settle this.
Where I part company with post #80, and it is a narrow parting.
Adding a reference point for travel coolers. Mine is a single case, collected without controls, and I am posting the method alongside it so it can be discounted appropriately.
Adding the measurement that post #82 says would settle it.
One more thing on travel coolers that took me far too long to see: the two figures people quote are not measuring the same quantity. Once you notice that, the apparent contradiction disappears.
Clear enough that I do not think I have a follow-up, which is unusual.
Confirming post #82 from a second method, which matters more than confirming it from a second person.
Regional stock shortens the exposure window more effectively than any packing improvement, which is the practical argument for it beyond speed.
It is a small point and it changes the answer, which is an awkward combination.
